This was an invitation card I created for Cornell Cooperative Extension. They were looking for a clean, high-end design to convey a sense of natural elegance.

DESIGNTIP/INSIGHT
Society in Miniature
It's interesting to me how the whole of society is made up of countless Societies in Miniature. Each one has it's own hierarchy of leadership, sets of rules, and goals - from the family, to the workplace, to the beer-soaked softball leagues, to the playgrounds, and so it goes. Each mini-society contributes in some way, however small, to the whole of society (and these contributions are not always positive). A beautiful treatment of Society in Miniature is Lord of the Flies. Are you Ralph or Jack or Piggy?
Some people are quite adept at moving comfortably between various societies, and some people end up in prison - or institutionalized.
These societal relationships have been my focus because I am currently in the midst of rehearsing for the role of Randle P. McMurphy in Hampton Theatre Company's upcoming production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Is it possible to stand out and fit in at the same time? And what happens when you realize you simply don't fit in anywhere?
Would love to know which societies you fit into.
